A significant portion, more than 50%, of human resources (HR) and equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) managers believe their respective companies provide support for LGBTQ+ employees.
However, an almost equal proportion, close to two-thirds, have witnessed instances of discrimination within the workplace.
A survey conducted among 136 professionals in the field unveiled that 25% of them plan to introduce training programs focusing on sexual orientation, while an additional 22% intend to conduct such training annually.
The Head of Diversity and Inclusion at VinciWorks emphasised the importance of comprehensive training to foster an environment of respect. Furthermore, separate research discovered that on a global scale, 70% of LGBTQ+ women and non-binary professionals encounter discrimination, resulting in 60% facing obstacles in their career progression due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
It is imperative for HR and EDI professionals to promptly address discrimination issues and foster a culture that encourages others to speak out against inappropriate behavior.
